We have a familiar face back at the top of SEC Hot Seats this week. Did someone say Sun Belt Billy?

Billy Napier, Florida

When it comes to bad losses of the weekend, no one had a worse loss than Florida did this weekend. A last second field goal by USF kicker Nico Gramatica sunk the Gators by a score of 18-16. For head coach Billy Napier, we are seeing his tenure come to an end.
As if the loss was not already bad enough, the Gators displayed sloppiness on multiple occasions Saturday night. Florida was penalized 11 times for 103 yards. There was also a special teams miscue that resulted in a safety.
Giving up safeties is not usual if you have followed Napier’s coaching career going back to his days at ULL. Remember when he took an intentional safety against Appalachian State in 2020?
A terrible decision bailed out by a missed field goal.
While athletic director Scott Stricklin stood behind Napier in 2024, this loss makes it hard to keep him much longer. The fans in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium made clear their intentions to move on.
Seeing South Florida celebrating on their home field had to be quite unsettling for Gator fans.
It also had to be unsettling when Napier announced he would retain play calling duties in his Monday press conference.
Napier is now 20-20 as head coach at Florida. His predecessor, Dan Mullen, was fired after posting a 34-15 record. For more Napier lowlights, see below:
Now, Napier will take his team to Baton Rouge to face a talented LSU team ready to avenge last year’s loss. The environment he will face will not be nearly as welcoming as the one he left behind just 60 miles west.
Kalen DeBoer, Alabama

No SEC coach benefited more from Florida’s misfortune than Alabama’s Kalen DeBoer. DeBoer is no longer the SEC coach feeling the most heat. The Crimson Tide took out their frustration and overwhelmed UL-Monroe by a score of 73-0.
Alabama scored on all eleven possessions, with ten going for touchdowns. In fact, DeBoer did something Saban did not; he beat UL-Monroe the first time he faced them as Alabama’s head coach.
Is that enough to quell the uproar among the Alabama fanbase? He better hope they are not all like Susie Conerly.
Mark Stoops, Kentucky

With a 10-0 lead in the first half, it looked as though Kentucky would upset Ole Miss for the second straight season. However, that was not the case as Ole Miss stormed back to an eventual 30-23 win.
Mark Stoops has made a name for himself by winning close games at Kentucky. However, since 2023, Stoops is 1-5 in SEC games decided by eight or fewer points.
Right now, the Wildcats are struggling in the passing game. After two games, Kentucky still has no passing touchdowns. It appears Stoops is sticking with Zach Calzada at quarterback.
Perhaps Eastern Michigan can provide confidence for Calzada and the Kentucky offense before the bye week and back to back road trips to South Carolina and Georgia.
Sam Pittman, Arkansas

While offensive woes have plagued Kentucky, that has not been a problem for Arkansas. The Razorbacks have scored at least 50 points in their first two games. Quarterback Taylen Green has already thrown 10 touchdowns on the season.
Sam Pittman and Arkansas will get their first true test of the season as they head to Oxford to take on #17 Ole Miss. Pittman says his team will be ready.
Arkansas will need to improve on their performance from last year. Ole Miss ran away with a 63-31 victory last season.
Brent Venables, Oklahoma

Brent Venables was one of the biggest winners in college football this past weekend. The Sooners defeated Michigan 24-13 and his new quarterback was a big reason why. John Mateer came to Oklahoma to resurrect the Sooners’ offense, and Saturday he did exactly that.
Mateer ran for two touchdowns and threw for another. His efforts earned him SEC Offensive Player of the Week.
The vibes are sky high in Norman. Now, they inexplicably go on the road to take on Temple. Who schedules a home and home with Temple?
