SEC Hot Seats Week 11

We are now three-quarters through the college football schedule and SEC coaches are going to start falling like your average freshman’s grade point average. Let’s take a look at who’s not making the grade.

Kevin Sumlin endured another loss which may have sealed his fate at Texas A&M.

Texas A&M led Auburn 13-7 in the second quarter, however, it would not last long. Auburn took the lead on a fifty-three yard touchdown pass by Jarrett Stidham. Auburn would then score again on a blocked punt to take a 21-13 halftime lead. The Tigers never looked back as they defeated the Aggies 42-27.

Auburn signal caller Jarrett Stidham played a large role in the victory with two hundred sixty-eight yards passing and three touchdowns. While Texas A&M quarterbacks Nick Starkel and Kellen Mond were mostly ineffective, Stidham paced the Auburn offense. This has to sting for Sumlin as he passed on Stidham as a recruit in 2015 and as a transfer last offseason.

Sumlin would have to win out to keep his job, and that is no certainty. Left on the schedule for Texas A&M is a resurgent Ole Miss squad and LSU, a school Sumlin has never defeated.

For the first time in over a month, Butch Jones got a win, albeit unimpressive. Tennessee only gained two hundred ten yards of offense in their 24-10 victory over Southern Miss. The Eagles’ mistakes played a large role in the Volunteers’ victory with two turnovers and one hundred twenty yards in penalties.

Tennessee now goes on the road to face a red hot Missouri team. I would advise Jones to make his own return travel plans because he may not have a seat on the plane ride back.

Bret Bielema continues to live life on the edge.

Comeback wins on the road in the SEC, good. Comeback wins over 1-7 Coastal Carolina, not good. Just take a look at how bad this Coastal Carolina team has been this year.

CC schedule

Arkansas pulled out a 39-38 victory as quarterback Cole Kelley scored the go-ahead touchdown in the final minutes.

With a career record of 29-31 at Arkansas, Bielema would need to win his three remaining regular season games to get over .500. Do not count the big man out just yet as he has pulled off the improbable before.

Barry-Odom-Main-1

Barry Odom and his team are winners of three straight, outscoring their opponents 165-49. Missouri hosts the struggling Tennessee Volunteers this weekend as a double-digit favorite. Odom now has an opportunity to go from the hot seat to the cool throne.

While all these coaches need wins this week, let’s hope they can come up with better speeches than Jameis Winston.
