Four SEC coaches came into this season facing heavy pressure. After one game, some saw the heat rise, while Kevin Sumlin looks to keep winning.

I’ll start with Kevin Sumlin, who may have been under the most pressure entering this season. Sumlin and Texas A&M got off to a good start defeating the UCLA Bruins this weekend. In an offseason in which his top two quarterbacks both transferred, Sumlin may have found an answer in Trevor Knight. Knight accounted for three Aggie touchdowns including a game-winning rush in overtime.
Things are now looking up in College Station with the win over #16 UCLA. It’s the second season in a row Texas A&M has defeated a top 20 opponent in the opening weekend. The Aggies handed Arizona State a 38-17 drubbing in 2014 when the teams met in Houston. Texas A&M shouldn’t have much trouble as they host Prairie View this weekend. That will change the following weekend when they head to Auburn and face another embattled head coach.

That leads me right to Gus Malzahn. Auburn played a competitive opening game against highly ranked Clemson. The Auburn defense was up to the task as they held Heisman favorite Deshaun Watson under 300 yards of total offense. The offseason hire of Kevin Steele looks solid after one game.
However, Auburn still lost the game. A big reason for that was uneffective quarterback play. Malzahn played three different quarterbacks in the loss. Sean White, Jeremy Johnson, and John Franklin III all enjoyed little success. As the season progresses, Auburn will need to figure out which quarterback is going to play and stick with him.
Another Cam Newton would have Auburn fans ecstatic, but if they had another Nick Marshall they would be just fine.

I put Mark Stoops on this list because of his teams’ inability to finish. Usually the Wildcats would start the season well and fade down the stretch. Well the 2016 Wildcats managed to do it one game. Leading Southern Miss 35-17 at half, Kentucky managed zero points in the second half and lost the game 44-35.
The offensive coordinator that led Southern Miss back? Former Kentucky offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson. Ouch…
With the loss to Southern Miss, Kentucky faces an uphill battle to get bowl-eligible. That will not be enough for Stoops to retain his job.

Les Miles entered the season on the hot seat after a tumultuous 2015 season. After 1 game, one person has even started a GoFundMe to buy out at least part of his contract.
