Nado’s Notions: Week 10

Season record: 29-14-2

Last week: 4-0-1 (Northwestern +7, BYU +2.5, Washington -4.5, Pittsburgh -6.5, Tennessee -9.5)

What a strong week last week! Four wins, no losses, and a push. Hopefully some of you got Northwestern +7.5, but it counts as a push for me.

Thankfully, I withstood the temptation to take LSU over the past few weeks. The Tigers’ struggles led to the dismissal of Brian Kelly. More on that here.

Let’s have another winning week, shall we?

Navy Midshipmen (7-0) @ North Texas Mean Green (7-1) | November 1 | 11:00 AM CT | DATCU Stadium

Line: North Texas -6.5 | Total: 65.5

Some are saying this could be a “pumpkin patch” weekend due to the lack of quality matchups on the slate. However, do not sleep on Navy at North Texas. Navy comes in undefeated, while North Texas has a lone loss to South Florida.

These teams are led by explosive offenses. Over the past month, Navy leads FBS in yards per play with 7.89. Second in the country? That would be North Texas at 7.58 yards per play.

Let’s start the day with over 65.5.

Duke Blue Devils (4-3) @ Clemson Tigers (3-4) | November 1 | 11:00 AM CT | Memorial Stadium

Line: Clemson -2.5 | Total: 55.5

Both Duke and Clemson enter off a bye. For Clemson, the time off allowed quarterback Cade Klubnik to work back to full health.

It appears Klubnik is trending towards playing. While he may not be the running threat he usually is, his presence should help the Clemson offense take advantage of a Duke defense that has struggled this season.

In the Blue Devils’ last outing, they surrendered points on every Georgia Tech possession with the exception of their final kneel downs. These were drives of 63 yards, 89 yards, 72 yards, and 71 yards.

Duke quarterback Darian Mensah leads the ACC in passing yards per game with 315.9. Mensah will be forced to do a lot of heavy lifting as the rushing game has failed when stepping up in competition. The Blue Devils rushed for 82 yards against Illinois and 68 against Georgia Tech.

Rushing yards will not come easy against the Clemson defense. The Tigers are allowing 93.7 rushing yards per game over their last three games.

Clemson -2.5 is my pick.

Arizona State Sun Devils (5-3) @ Iowa State Cyclones (5-3) | November 1 | 12:00 PM CT | Jack Trice Stadium

Line: Iowa State -7.5 | Total: 48.5

The Iowa State defense has been run ragged in recent weeks. Over their last three games, the Cyclones have allowed 6.84 yards per play. That ranks last in the Big 12.

This week, Iowa State welcomes in Arizona State who will be without starting quarterback Sam Leavitt.

The status of star receiver Jordyn Tyson is also questionable.

Injuries suck, and Iowa State knows it all too well after losing both starting corners.

Facing a backup quarterback should even things out, so give me Iowa State -7.5.

Things are going well, and I do not want to force it. I saw how things worked out for Scott Van Pelt last week, and I do not want to go down that path.

Three plays this week, and hopefully three winners!

OUTTA HERE!
