As Nelly once said, “it’s getting hot in here”. However, I would prefer these coaches keep their clothes on. I will try to spare you from that, but some of their respective jobs may be a different story.

Billy Napier, Florida

Florida has now lost three in a row as their tailspin has no end in sight. Yes, playing at LSU and Miami is not easy, but the Gators offense has been putrid in those two games. After scoring only 10 points at LSU, Florida was held to 7 points and only 7 first downs. While the Gators came out of the half and went 80 yards to make it a one-score game, they never sustained another drive as Miami took control for a 26-7 win.
After the South Florida loss, Billy Napier announced he would retain playcalling duties. That has not produced fruitful results as evidenced by their output against LSU and Miami.
Florida now heads into a bye week. The Gators’ path does not get any easier as they will host #10 Texas in the first week of October.
Sam Pittman, Arkansas

Just when things were looking up for Arkansas, the Razorbacks fell apart. Arkansas raced out to a 28-10 lead in the first half at Memphis, then produced just three points as they suffered their second loss of the season. A pair of fourth quarter turnovers derailed the Razorbacks’ chances late. Arkansas looked as though they would pull out a win, but a Mike Washington Jr. fumble in the red zone would do them in.
This week, Arkansas hosts Notre Dame. While Sam Pittman is trying to right the ship, it appears calls for his job are coming from within in the house, quite literally.
Offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino is “working the phones” to put himself in position to take over. Nothing Petrino does surprises me anymore. Last time he was in the news for something involving a phone, did it not end like this?

Never change, Bobby.
Kalen DeBoer, Alabama

Things are looking better for Kalen DeBoer after winning two in a row, but that is not nearly enough to satisfy the Crimson Tide fanbase. Alabama will need to win games like the one this Saturday for their head man to regain their faith. They face reigning SEC Champion Georgia in Athens this Saturday. Some reports indicate that Georgia could do another “blackout”.
The blackout is unconfirmed as of now, but many remember the last time Georgia wore the black jerseys against Alabama in 2008.
This game was a catalyst as former coach Nick Saban turned the Alabama program into a powerhouse.
Will DeBoer be able to repeat history or will he be 2-2 when the final whistle blows?
Mark Stoops, Kentucky

It is only September, but this is a big game for Mark Stoops. At 2-1, Kentucky heads to South Carolina where they have not won since 2021. The Wildcats have lost three straight against the Gamecocks. It has also been almost a calendar year since Kentucky’s last win over an SEC team. That, of course, was their improbable win over Ole Miss last September.
Quarterback Cutter Boley will be making his second start of the season.
Boley provided the Kentucky offense with their first two passing touchdowns of the season against Eastern Michigan. However, it could be the run game that sparks Kentucky against South Carolina. Last week, the Gamecocks gave up 285 rushing yards against Missouri. Kentucky’s top two rushers, Seth McGowan and Dante Dowdell, both average over five yards per carry.
SEC Officiating

The Auburn and Oklahoma game was supposed to be a game that put the losing coach on the hot seat. However, this was a tight game and it was neither coach that drew the most ire. It was the referees. While we have become accustomed to bad calls, what happened on a game-altering play was enough for the SEC to come out and clear the air.
Here is the play, if you have not seen it.
Officiating aside, kudos to Oklahoma coach Brent Venables on another big win. The Sooners are now ranked in the Top 10 of both the AP and Coaches Poll.
