Major League Baseball begins today* and as most of you know the season is long and can be dull for stretches. Now, you can always wager to add excitement, but I have not had much luck with that.

Last season, I tried to do something a little different. I picked a player to hit a home run and increased my bet by $1 each day until he hit one. Unfortunately, the first player I picked was Christian Yelich and he failed to hit a home run in that span.

As you can see, while Yelich left me high and dry, other players like Marcell Ozuna, Juan Soto, and Rafael Devers were able to pick up the slack.

This season, I will pick my players based on data from the 2023 season. Below are the players with the highest average exit velocity in 2023.

The first player I will select will be Aaron Judge. I will begin with Judge and go down the list until we get to Kyle Schwarber. By the time we get through Schwarber, I will have enough data from 2024 to re-evaluate and select the next player.

The process will go like this. I will bet $1 on Aaron Judge to hit a home run in the first game of the season. The next game I will bet $2 on Judge to hit a home run. With each successive game, the bet will be an accumulation of all previous bets until we get to seven games. Seven is a lucky number and it allows me to move to the next hitter on the list without a huge cost. $96 is the maximum loss on a single hitter.

Game 2: $2

Game 3: $3

Game 4: $6

Game 5: $12

Game 6: $24

Game 7: $48
