EA Sports College Football is Returning…and People are Complaining?

EA Sports recently announced that their popular college football video game is returning. A trailer dropped which has fans drooling over the possibility of taking their school of choice to a national championship.

Now that video should have most ready to dust off their controllers. However, as social media goes, there can never be unanimous approval.

It was announced that players featured in the game would receive $600 and a copy of the game.

Seeing yourself in the video game has to be an honor. The $600 and a copy seems like a nice bonus. But again, not everyone sees it that way.

The ever-litigious curmudgeon that is Mike Florio took issue with the offer. Florio claims it is exploitation, but aside from a handful of players, it seems like a pretty good deal.

Andy Staples brought some sense to this madness.

Bravo, Andy! The video game gives these players more exposure. After spending all summer playing this game, fans will be more inclined to watch and pay closer attention to them in real life, thus increasing their profile.

While the debate over players being featured in the game has sparked some controversy, there is another issue at stake.

It was also announced that ESPN’s top announcing crew consisting of Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit would be included in the game as well as others.

This led to ESPN’s Molly McGrath calling for female broadcasters to be in the game.

To me, this was a not-so-shy way of saying she should be included.

Molly is a prominent sideline reporter in college football and I would have no problem with her asking to be involved, but maybe there is a better way of doing it. Instead, she doubled down on “female representation”.

I am looking forward to this game and I am not going to let trivial issues dampen that.
