I just want to be clear in stating that I am in no way, shape, or form, a fan of PETA. While PETA stands for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, they tend to go overboard, to put it mildly. I am also an animal lover, but that is not going to stop me from enjoying a steak or chicken wings.
However, I have to give credit where credit is due. PETA is known for their guerilla marketing tactics and this week they took it up a notch.
As you probably know, Uga X, the live mascot of the University of Georgia, recently passed away. Uga X was beloved by Georgia fans and college sports fans in general, and they mourned the death of the winningest mascot in program history.
This presented an opportunity for the provocateurs at PETA to point out the unhealthy breeding habits of English Bulldogs.
While most everyone on X replied to this post in anger, I have to admit I found myself in agreement with the antagonizing folks at PETA. The community note also misses the point. It does not matter how well cared for if this particular breed is born with defects.
I think it is pretty clear that English Bulldogs do have breathing problems and to PETA’s credit they provided supporting evidence of this.
So that is something to keep in mind if you were considering getting an English Bulldog or any other flat-faced dog.
Now, PETA did not stop there. As you may know, Groundhog’s Day is coming up and PETA is making waves on that topic, too.
Removing the animal that has a whole dedicated to him?

In the words of Jerry Reed Ben Mintz, “when you’re hot, you’re hot”. We will see if PETA can keep this streak going.
