The 2023 NFL Draft begins tomorrow. While coaches and scouts have watched hours upon hours of hundreds of potential draftees, there are fine pieces of information left uncovered. However, thanks to Chipotle, we get a further look. To my knowledge, Chipotle’s relationship with NFL Draft prospects goes back to 2021. That was when Justin Fields raised eyebrows with his vegan salad order.

We cannot be sure that this it was caused Fields to fall to pick #11, but in a draft that saw three quarterbacks taken before him, we cannot rule that out.
Now, to our 2023 prospects…
First up is Will Anderson out of Alabama. Obviously, no one who has spent at least a year in the state of Alabama is vegan, so he clears that hurdle by including chicken. I can also respect Anderson’s decision not to include beans. Not including beans will hopefully keep him from having a similar fate as fellow pass rusher Von Miller did with the Broncos.
Now there are some negatives to Anderson’s order. Corn really adds no value to a Chipotle bowl, and I will not hear otherwise. Then there is the mixture of queso and sour cream. That just seems like a huge mess.
Anderson’s disruptive style of play is sure to cause a mess for opponents at the next level.
Will Anderson Chipotle Bowl Rating: 6.1
Next up is Penn State cornerback Joey Porter Jr. Porter Jr’s order is very similar to Anderson’s. He also chose chicken as his protein. While Anderson omitted beans, Porter Jr opted for pinto beans. I like the inclusion of the red sauce, though.
Having a little sauce is good for a defensive back. Perhaps Porter Jr can emulate 2022 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Sauce Gardner and have an immediate impact with his new team.
Joey Porter Jr. Chipotle Bowl Rating: 6.0
Our third and final prospect is Notre Dame tight end Michael Mayer. Sour cream aside, this is a strong order. Double steak is definitely the way to go. I can also appreciate the minimalism in the ingredients. In fact, that order makes me confident in saying he will be the first tight end taken in this year’s draft.
Currently, Mayer is listed at -150 on DraftKings to be the first tight end taken.
Michael Mayer Chipotle Bowl Rating: 8.3
While all three bowls could improved, there are no major flaws here. Sure, they could use a tweak or two, but nothing like Justin Fields going fully vegan. Credit to both Chipotle and these athletes for not raising any red flags heading into the 2023 NFL Draft.
