Buddy, I Was Wrong About The Tigers

As my title indicates, I was wrong about LSU. After LSU centerfielder Giovanni DiGiamoco hit a walkoff single to defeat Central Connecticut State, I fired off a text that has aged quite poorly.

Rather than let anyone hold it over my head, allow me to expose myself, not in the Jeffrey Toobin sense, but more in the @OldTakesExposed sense.

So there you have it, in that moment, I was a “negatiger”. Never mind that LSU would have to win three games in two days. Never mind that LSU had already used ace Landon Marceaux and veteran righty Ma’Khail Hillard. Never mind that it took extra innings to defeat fourth-seeded Central Connecticut State. I was plum wrong.

LSU would, in fact, reel off three straight wins. AJ Labas stepped up and delivered an eight-inning performance as the LSU bats got going in a 9-4 win over Gonzaga. In the following game, it was freshman reliever Javen Coleman who stepped in and pitched six innings, allowing only one run as LSU defeated Oregon 4-1. That set up a rematch on Monday night.

Monday night was a wild affair which saw five lead changes. LSU and Oregon both had a pair of home runs. However, the most pivotal play of the game was a balk by Oregon pitcher Kolby Somers.

That balk was idiotic. Almost as idiotic as my text from Saturday.

That gave LSU an 8-7 lead. The Tigers would tack on another insurance run, and they needed it as they would go on to win 9-8.

Now LSU heads to Knoxville for a best-of-three series with a trip to Omaha on the line. Tennessee was not a pleasant road trip for the Tigers in late March. LSU was swept, with two losses coming in walk-off fashion.

However, that was before they proved me wrong. That was before they became “Road Dogs”.

My apologies on giving up. I am happy I was wrong and it will not happen again.

Geaux Tigers!
