Beer Bottles and Gimmicks

Everyone has their favorite beer and beer companies have done their best to reestablish that preference. Domestic beers are fairly similar in taste, so they rely on branding and marketing to set themselves apart from their competition. Now today I want to talk about some of my favorite gimmicks associated with beer bottles over the years.

Bud Light had the labels that could be written on back in 2011. Now I don’t know who wrote “SARA” on the bottle in the picture above, but he might as well be an artist because my engravings were nowhere near that legible.

Being able to spell out your name or phone number, or whatever you wanted on a Bud Light bottle was a clever idea. However, it was never really functional. More importantly, it didn’t add much to the beer-drinking experience.

Full disclosure, I love Bud Light, but this is my least favorite gimmick I will mention here.

Coors Light, on the other hand, is never my first choice, but how can you pass one up when the mountains are blue? You talk about branding and marketing, they really hit a home run here. The blue mountains are synonymous with a cold Coors Light.

Now just look at that bottle. The craftsmanship and detail put into it really enhances my beer drinking. You talk about throwing back some cold ones and you add a vortex?
