Nado’s Notions: Week 11

Season record: 26-17-1

Last week: 1-3 (Miami/Virginia Tech over 67, Michigan State +7.5, Boston College +13.5, Wisconsin -4)

Ouch.

A week after going 5-0, I fell flat on my face. It was not a good week for me, but it was even worse for the state of Michigan. Michigan and Michigan State were outscored a combined 73-11 by Wisconsin and Indiana, respectively. Thankfully I was on Wisconsin, giving me my only win of the day.

Here’s to better outcomes this week!

#9 Indiana Hoosiers (4-0) @ #3 Ohio State Buckeyes (3-0) | November 21 | 11:00 AM CT | Ohio Stadium

Line: Ohio State -20.5 | Total: 66.5

Indiana is 4-0, but I am not ready to put them in the same class as Ohio State. The Hoosiers have wins over Penn State, Rutgers, Michigan, and Michigan State; those teams have a combined record of 3-13.

Things get much tougher when Indiana faces Justin Fields and Ohio State. Through three games, Fields has completed 86.7% of his passes while throwing 11 touchdowns and no interceptions.

Indiana’s rushing attack has been hardly potent, averaging only 2.66 yards per carry. Meanwhile, receiver Ty Fryfogle has been a huge part of the passing game. Fryfogle has 342 yards and 3 touchdowns in his past two games. I expect Ohio State to counter with cornerback Shaun Wade, a projected first rounder, which should limit his effectiveness.

Sorry Hoosiers, I think the Buckeyes roll. I am taking Ohio State -20.5.

STATE COLLEGE, PA – NOVEMBER 07: Rakim Jarrett #5 of the Maryland Terrapins runs for a touchdown after making a catch against the Penn State Nittany Lions at Beaver Stadium on November 7, 2020 in State College, Pennsylvania. (Photo by G Fiume/Maryland Terrapins/Getty Images)

Michigan State Spartans (1-3) @ Maryland Terrapins (2-1) | November 21 | 11:00 AM CT | Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium

Line: Maryland -6 | Total: 54

I saw what kind of mess Michigan State is against Indiana last week in a 24-0 loss. The week before they were routed 49-7 by Iowa. This week they get Maryland, who has been rolling offensively. The Terrapins’ 7.31 yards per play leads the Big Ten.

I like the recent trends to continue. Give me Maryland -6.

AUBURN, AL – OCTOBER 31: Terrace Marshall Jr. #6 of the LSU Tigers runs the ball against the Auburn Tigers in the first half at Jordan-Hare Stadium on October 31, 2020 in Auburn, Alabama. (Photo by Gus Stark/Collegiate Images/Getty Images)

LSU Tigers @ Arkansas Razorbacks | November 21 | 11:00 AM CT | Razorback Stadium

Line: Arkansas -1.5 | Total: 65

LSU has not played since October 31 when they were soundly defeated by Auburn by a score of 48-11. It was the worst offensive output of the season for a team that averages 35.8 points per game. The Tigers will face an Arkansas defense that just gave up 593 yards in a 63-35 loss to Florida.

Arkansas quarterback Feleipe Franks has been playing well. Franks is among the SEC leaders in completion percentage (68.3%), yards (1,678), and touchdowns (16). I expect that success to continue against an LSU defense that has surrendered career games to Missouri’s Connor Bazelak and Auburn’s Bo Nix.

Give me over 56.

Virginia Tech Hokies (4-4) @ Pittsburgh Panthers (4-4) | November 21 | 3:00 PM CT | Heinz Field

Line: Virginia Tech -3.5 | Total: 55.5

Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny Pickett returned to action in the Panthers’ 41-17 win over Florida State. Pittsburgh is 4-2 with Pickett under center, with both losses coming by one point each.

Virginia Tech relies heavily on their rushing attack, running the ball on 65% of their offensive plays. That is with good reason as the Hokies average 6.1 yards per attempt on the ground. However, they will get a significant test against Pittsburgh, who only gives up 78.8 rushing yards per game.

Pittsburgh +3.5 is my pick.

#14 Oklahoma State Cowboys (5-1) @ #18 Oklahoma Sooners | November 21 | 6:30 PM CT | Memorial Stadium

Line: Oklahoma -7 | Total: 59

Oklahoma has the top offense in the Big 12 by a wide margin, averaging 515 yards and 46.1 points per game. They will face an Oklahoma State defense that ranks sixteenth nationally in yards allowed per game with 311.

This game features the Big 12’s top two passers in regards to yards per attempt. Oklahoma’s Spencer Rattler averages 9.7 yards per attempt and Oklahoma State’s Spencer Sanders averages 8.2 yards per attempt.

Oklahoma State running back has not quite matched his production of 2019. Last season, Hubbard averaged 6.4 yards per carry, this season only 4.6. However, Oklahoma State is better suited attacking Oklahoma through the air. The Sooners only give up 98.6 yards per game on the ground, but have surrendered large amounts of passing yards to every opponent except Southwest Missouri State and Kansas. Against their five other opponents, Oklahoma has given up 289 passing yards per game.

When push comes to shove, offense should rule the day. Expect Bedlam! Expect points!

Over 59.
