Honoring the #0’s in College Football

Earlier this year, the NCAA began allowing college football players to wear #0 as their jersey number. As a fan of quirky numbers, I welcomed this change. However, it was a disappointment to see there will be no LSU Tigers wearing a single zero on their jersey.

Therefore, I had to look around college football for my top players wearing #0 this season.

Tarik Black, Texas

Tarik Black is a graduate transfer from Michigan now playing at Texas. With his new home, he chose “0” as his new number. In his debut, he had 5 catches for 80 yards and a touchdown.

Braden Lenzy, Notre Dame

Braden Lenzy has not done much in 2020 as he has dealt with injuries. However, when healthy he is a big play waiting to happen. Lenzy averaged 23 yards per catch and 15 yards per carry last season.

Marcel Brooks, TCU

Marcel Brooks played a role on LSU’s National Championship team as a pass rush specialist. While at LSU, he wore the #9, which was also worn by Heisman winner Joe Burrow. That number will almost undoubtedly be retired. It begged the question as to whether or not Brooks would continue to wear #9.

However, Brooks entered the transfer portal and landed at TCU. He is listed as a backup at both middle linebacker and right end. Brooks will make his TCU debut Saturday against Iowa State and will be wearing #0.
