Nado’s Notions: Week 2

Season record: 1-1

Last week: 1-1 (Notre Dame -20, Georgia Tech +12.5)

So-so start to the season. Notre Dame came up short on covering, beating Duke 27-14. However, Georgia Tech won outright.

On to week 2.

Syracuse Orange (0-1) at Pittsburgh Panthers (1-0) | September 19 | 11:00 AM CT | Heinz Field

Line: Pittsburgh -21.5 | Total: 50

The Pittsburgh Panthers came out and dominated Austin Peay to open the 2020 season. They won by a final score of 55-0 despite a shortened second half.

On the other hand, Syracuse was trounced by North Carolina, 31-6. The Orange only mustered up 202 yards of offense.

Pitt’s defense is for real. I am taking Pittsburgh -21.5.

UL-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns (1-0) @ Georgia State Panthers (0-0) | September 19 | 11:00 AM CT | Center Parc Stadium

Line: UL-Lafayette -17 | Total: 58.5

The Ragin’ Cajuns are one of the biggest stories of the college football season so far with their upset win at Iowa State. UL-Lafayette now finds themselves ranked in the Top 25.

UL-Lafayette goes on the road for the second straight week to face Georgia State. The Panthers had an upset of their own to begin the 2019 season when they knocked off Tennessee. Sixteen starters return from that team.

While UL-Lafayette’s win was impressive, their offense struggled to move the ball for most of the game. Two of their scores came on returns, while a third came on a 78-yard touchdown pass. The aforementioned touchdown pass made up over half of the Ragin’ Cajuns’ passing yards (154) on the day.

Sorry, Rico Bosco.

I am not all in on UL-Lafayette. Plus, this is a big-time hangover spot. I am taking Georgia State +17.

South Florida Bulls (1-0) @ Notre Dame Fighting Irish (1-0) | September 19 | 1:30 PM CT | Notre Dame Stadium

Line: Notre Dame -25.5 | Total: 48.5

South Florida is 1-0 to start the season after a victory over Citadel. However, this week is a step up in competition. This week they get Notre Dame and running back Kyren Williams.

Williams had a breakout game last week against Duke. He had 112 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns. I expect that to continue against a South Florida defense that was 114th in the country against the run last season.

I am going back to the well and taking Notre Dame -25.5.

Texas State Bobcats (0-2) @ UL-Monroe Warhawks (0-1) | September 19 | 6:30 PM CT | Malone Stadium

Line: Texas State -5.5 | Total: 62

Texas State is coming off of a heart-breaking loss in double overtime to rival UT-San Antonio. It was a wild affair in which the Bobcats scored two touchdowns with under two minutes remaining in regulation to force overtime.

For UL-Monroe, their season began with a 37-7 loss at the hands of Army. Their offense never got on track and their defense was not able to slow down the Black Knights’ rushing attack. Army rushed for 436 yards on the day.

This is a new week for both teams and one thing I expect is points. This is the Fun Belt! I am taking over 62.
