Corona Diaries

If you have not heard, there is currently a pandemic that has swept across the world. The coronavirus, or COVID-19, has been inescapable in 2020. Well, one of the latest to test positive is yours truly.

I got tested on Friday, June 19, but somehow my results did not come back until earlier this week. I began experiencing symptoms around the time I was tested. The first one I experienced was a fever. I noticed I was sweating the bed. Yes, sweating the bed, not wetting the bed. It has been years since I have done that!

The next symptom I experienced was a loss of smell. I did not immediately notice it, however. My nose began to bother me so I grabbed the ol’ Flonase to do the trick. I realized that it was not hitting the way it normally does. Aware that the ‘rona can cause a loss of smell, I began sniffing like a young bloodhound. Nothing, I could not smell a thing. That is when I knew.

I wanted to be sure so I called the clinic that I was tested by. They told me that they still did not have my results. This went on for over a week. In that span, I self-quarantined because I figured I had it, but it sure would have been nice to have confirmation.

I did not want to jump to any conclusions so I did not announce that I had COVID-19, but I did tell some friends I thought I had it. They were all supportive, especially my boy Keith, who recommended zinc. From there I went on Amazon and found this:

Two days later, it was delivered. I immediately took the recommended serving of two gummies and let them go to work. I had to let the ‘rona know it cannot just come into my house without a fight. I am taking the zinc daily to ensure that.*

Overall, the coronavirus has not been a terrible experience. However, it has not been all smooth sailing. The worst things I experienced were dizzy spells and short-term confusion. It was pretty scary because those effects blindsided me. I really do not even know how to describe how it felt in detail, but it was weird. Thankfully, it did not last long.

During the quarantine, I have done hardly anything other than watch TV and scroll Twitter. With everything going on, Twitter has not been a very fun place. TV has been a more enjoyable alternative. I recently re-watched LSU win the National Championship, which means I have now seen it no less than twenty times. Speaking of replays, my nightly routine has been watching Sportscenter with Scott Van Pelt over and over again. Changing the channel is too big of a hassle, I guess.

I finally got my results back from my test on Tuesday, June 30. Of course, it was positive.

Being that I self-diagnosed and lived through coronavirus, I am now going to declare myself an expert on the subject. Here are my recommendations on beating the coronavirus:

  1. Quarantine.
  2. Hydrate, or as the movement says, “Get your liquids in”. Make sure to follow them on Twitter @GYLILiquids.
  3. Get some zinc.
  4. Rest and relax.
