The NFL Combine concluded Monday, but not before several former LSU Tigers took the field. In all, ten former Tigers participated in the workouts. The group included center Will Clapp, offensive tackles K.J. Malone and Toby Weathersby, running backs Derrius Guice and Darrel Williams, quarterback Danny Etling, wide receiver D.J. Chark, edge Arden Key, and cornerbacks Donte Jackson and Kevin Toliver.
The NFL Combine gives players a chance to catch the eyes of NFL personnel and that’s exactly what some of these guys did.

Derrius Guice solidified himself as one of the top running backs in the draft on Friday. Guice was timed at 4.49 seconds in the 40 yard dash and had a 31.5″ vertical jump. These aren’t quite the numbers that were posted by Penn State All-American running back Saquon Barkley, but they are good enough to keep Guice in the conversation as a first round pick.
Guice’s biggest splash, however, may have been the quote he gave when at the podium.

He certainly doesn’t lack confidence and that is understandable for a guy who is the first SEC player to rush for over two hundred fifty yards in three different games.

D.J. Chark should be called Charknado because he took the combine by storm. After being measured at 6’3″, Chark went on to run a 4.34 in the 40 yard dash and record a 40 inch vertical. Both marks were tops in the wide receiver group. He also showed good hands in the gauntlet drill.
The NFL Combine was not the first time Chark has impressed since the season ended. The senior receiver showed big play ability in the Senior Bowl in late January, catching 5 passes for 160 yards and a touchdown.

Arden Key is the LSU prospect that came into the NFL Combine with the most questions around him. The defensive end missed all of spring practice and missed two games in the beginning of the 2017 season. For Key, the most important aspect of the Combine was what happened off the field. He had to answer questions surrounding his disappointing junior season. Key did not give details to the media, but he assured them that he came clean to team officials he spoke to.
Key opted not to run the 40 at the combine, but he will do so at LSU’s pro day. He participated in on the field drills and was able to flash his athletic ability. Key was able to change directions smoothly while on the field. He was also lighter at the NFL Combine, weighing in at 238 pounds, after playing the 2017 season as heavy as 275 pounds.

Donte Jackson failed to break John Ross’ record in the 40 yard dash, but he did tie for the fastest 40 yard dash time in 2018 at 4.32 seconds.
