SEC Hot Seats Week 13

The 2017 college football regular season is coming to an end. That also means the end is coming for some SEC coaches.

It is Thanksgiving so I would like to first say what I am thankful for. I am thankful for what happened right before the second half of the LSU/Tennessee game in a stormy Neyland Stadium. LSU head coach Ed Orgeron gave the most electric interview of the college football season. I have watched it over a dozen times, and I still have not grown tired of it.

Coach O loves football

Here is another shot of Orgeron soaking it in.

Magnificent.

However, coaching is largely a thankless profession. Coaches on the hot seat can attest to that.

It looks like this could be it for our dear friend, Bret Bielema.

Arkansas held a 14-0 lead after the first quarter against Mississippi State. However, the Razorbacks were unable to close out the Bulldogs as Nick Fitzgerald completed a touchdown pass to Deddrick Thomas with seventeen seconds left in the game for a 28-21 victory.

Arkansas continues to sink as they are now 4-7 and 1-6 in SEC play. They now host Missouri who has won five is a row. This game carries significant weight in the form of a trophy that is shaped like two states. It is no secret that Arkansas loves rivalry game trophies. They were unable to claim “The Boot” when they lost to LSU on November 11. Can Bielema rally his team to win the “Battle Line Trophy”?

Win or not, Bielema and his team will be home for the holidays. Will Bielema have a new home soon? Stay tuned.

Vanderbilt has now lost seven of their last eight. I know they do not want Bama anymore, but do they still want Derek Mason?

Kevin Sumlin and Texas A&M got a big road win over Ole Miss.

The Aggies went into halftime down 24-21, but came out on top thanks to a great defensive performance in the second half. Texas A&M held Ole Miss scoreless in the second half and freshman defensive back Derrick Tucker returned an interception for a touchdown to complete the comeback.

Sumlin’s future remains up in the air as he prepares his team for LSU in Tiger Stadium. LSU is the only SEC West school Sumlin has yet to defeat; he is 0-5 in past meetings. The story around this game is reminiscent of what happened two years ago with the man on the LSU sideline. Rumors were swirling that then LSU coach Les Miles would be fired after the Texas A&M game and presumably replaced by Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher. LSU went on to defeat Texas A&M 19-7 and keep Les Miles. Now Sumlin faces almost the exact same scenario. It has been reported that Kevin Sumlin will be fired after the LSU game. Again, Jimbo Fisher is the leading candidate for Texas A&M.

That wraps up SEC Hot Seats for this week. Enjoy your Thanksgiving and think about who will be coaching in the SEC next season. But, most importantly, never believe the #Grumors!
