SEC play is now in full swing and wins are at a premium. Let’s take a look back at how the coaches on the hot seat fared and where they stand heading into Week 7.
It was another rough week for Bret Bielema and Arkansas. The Razorbacks went into South Carolina as a three point favorites and came out twenty six point losers. Arkansas gave up three defensive scores in its 48-22 loss, which was South Carolina’s biggest SEC win since defeating Arkansas 52-7 in 2013. Bielema coached Arkansas in that game as well.
Arkansas now sits at 2-3 and 0-2 in the SEC. For Bielema, he is now 27-29 as Arkansas’ head coach with a putrid 10-24 record in the SEC. With Alabama on the schedule this week and fading hopes of a bowl berth, it appears this fat hog is on his way to being slaughtered.
Last time out Butch Jones and his team were routed 41-0 by Georgia. The Volunteers were off last week, but it was no ordinary bye week according to Jones.
You have to love his ability to put a positive spin on things. Butch Jones once crowned his team “Champions of Life” and now he is saying they had their best bye week in a long, long time. These things have become laughable, especially when details of a fight between teammates come out.
Fights are not unusual in practice, but it does not help during a losing season. During Thursday’s practice defensive end Darrell Taylor kicked offensive tackle Trey Smith in the face in a fight between the teammates. Smith received stitches and Taylor is now suspended indefinitely. The Volunteers lose a starting defensive end in Taylor who leads his position in tackles with twenty.
Jones appears to be making a change at quarterback and will go with redshirt freshman Jarrett Guarantano against South Carolina. Quinten Dormady, who started Tennessee’s first five games, is said to be considering transferring.
Perhaps Jones exaggerated. Regardless, I doubt fans are buying it.

Pimp my ride: Butch Jones edition
Kevin Sumlin and Texas A&M had their four game winning streak snapped at the hands of Alabama. It was an encouraging performance as the Aggies fought back in the fourth quarter before coming up short in the 27-19 loss.
Texas A&M now heads to Florida who is still reeling after a close loss to LSU. Last time the Aggies took on the Gators they were making their SEC debut and a certain #2 was playing quarterback. Texas A&M fell in that meeting 20-17, but made a strong impression. This time around, anything but victory may not be enough for Sumlin.
Ed Orgeron and LSU bounced back in a big week defeating Florida 17-16 in Gainesville. It was not always pretty, but we saw a team that played hard until the final whistle. It was the kind of effort expected out of an Orgeron team. The win will keep the critics at bay for now, but here comes Auburn. A victory would silence even the harshest of critics. Auburn comes into the game outscoring their last three opponents 144-47. It will take the home Tigers best of efforts to secure victory in this SEC West battle.
This is Barry Odom. He is now 2-10 in his last twelve SEC games. He would be on the hot seat, but I doubt anyone cares about Missouri football.
See y’all next week!
