SEC Hot Seats Week 5

Bret Bielema moves to the top of the list of SEC Hot Seats after a fifth straight loss to Texas A&M. It was another frustrating loss for the Hogs as they blew a second half lead before being defeated in overtime. Bielema’s SEC record is now 10-23.

Bielema is big, fun, and means well. You know else fit that description?

That’s right, Harambe! (RIP)

He’s gone, and soon Bielema will be, too. Good night, sweet prince.

Butch Jones did not do much to help his cause with a 17-13 win over a winless UMass team. Something else that did nothing for him was his press conference on Monday. Jones took time to call out negativity in the Tennessee media in a bizarre rant.

More about that here

SEC Network analyst Greg McElroy pointed out the foolishness of Jones’ move because of the distraction it causes. I would like to get more on those thoughts but he blocked me on Twitter some time ago for an unknown reason.

If there is a team Kevin Sumlin knows how to beat, it is Arkansas. Last Saturday was his sixth straight victory over the Razorbacks. After falling to UCLA on opening weekend, Texas A&M has now won three in a row, albeit against lesser competition. The Aggies host South Carolina this weekend. South Carolina has faced troubles of late with a loss to Kentucky and a last second win over Louisiana Tech in recent weeks.

Gus Malzahn and Auburn took care of business at Missouri this past weekend in a 51-14 win. The only question that remains is, have they figured it out or did they just play Missouri? We will get a better look after they take on Mississippi State this Saturday.

Shoutout to Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs

Georgia delivered a dominating performance last Saturday, defeating Mississippi State 31-3. The Georgia defense kept the visiting Bulldogs out of the endzone and limited previous SEC Player of the Week Nick Fitzgerald to 130 total yards and intercepted him twice.

Georgia appears to be the top threat to Alabama in the SEC at this time. Smart will not have history on his side in a potential matchup with the Crimson Tide as Nick Saban has never lost to a former assistant. Saban is 11-0 in those games with his teams outscoring theirs 427-111.
